As a Baltimore based photographer, I have the privilege of capturing some truly precious moments in people’s lives. But there’s a super sweet story I have been excited to share… you’ve already seen part of it here and here, and today, you get to meet the sweet babe that inspired a big change in my business!
This story is one that is not only close to my heart but one that has profoundly shaped the direction of my business. This story revolves around a delightful baby girl – my niece. Her arrival into the world sparked my venture into the world of newborn, maternity, and family photography.
When my sister, Meg, shared the news of her pregnancy back in December 2022, I was overjoyed and so, so excited. Amidst the flurry of excitement, she expressed her wish for me to be the one to capture her maternity and newborn photos. As someone who has historically declared themselves as “terrified of babies,” I’ll admit, I was a little nervous. That said, I had been contemplating branching out into newborn, maternity, and family portraiture for a while but was hesitant. As someone who is not yet a mom myself, I felt like I needed a little something to push me to take the leap… and this was just the push I needed!
Now, 6+ months later, whenever I’m hanging out with Baby L, I can’t believe that there was ever a time that babies terrified me, and I tell her that all the time!
Dipping my toes into the world of newborn and maternity photography has been such an enriching experience.
I am immensely grateful for this new direction as it has been so sweet to connect with past CKP Couples and new friends here in Baltimore too (All while continuing to photograph weddings and grads too, of course!) This particular session holds a special place in my heart as it allowed me to capture the first days of my niece’s life and celebrate the magical journey of Meghan and Sean into parenthood.
Their photo session took place a few days after they brought their baby girl home from the hospital.
We chose to use their guest room for their session. This decision allowed them to maintain their personal space in their bedroom while providing a comfortable and well lit setting for our morning together. It was so sweet to witness sweet baby L snooze through most of her session, only to open her bright eyes just in time for her solo photos. Girly girl has loved shining in the spotlight since Day 1!
Of course, Luna, Baby L’s big puppy sister, also made a cameo during the session, adding an extra layer of sweetness to the entire experience! She somehow knew about Baby L before anyone else, becoming extra snuggly in the days before Meg and Sean learned that they were expecting!
Time has flown since our morning together, and the tiny newborn you see here has blossomed into a bubbly, six+ month-old baby girl. Watching her grow and thrive is an absolute delight!
