DC Cherry Blossom Engagement Photos | Sam and Dave

Such a bittersweet post— the last of my 2022 cherry blossom engagement sessions! Sad because… I wish spring (and these pretty, fluffy blossoms) lasted all year long, but sweet because just WAIT until you see how cute these two are! Meet Sam and Dave, one of the most joyful couples who were SO excited to have their photos taken in such a classic DC location.

Sam and Dave met while working together at a think tank in DC. They were just friends for the first year of knowing each other, but that changed, and thank goodness it did! They just recently celebrated their 5-year anniversary, and in a year and change, they’ll be saying I do at District Winery. (And I AM PUMPED!)

Do you remember that super random 70-degree day we had back in December? (It was glorious!) Sam and Dave decided to take a walk down to the Lincoln Memorial. They have a sweet pup who typically comes with them on walks, but for some reason, Dave didn’t want to bring their dog along, confusing Sam. Little did she know, he had some other plans in the works! They went on the walk, sans pup, and once they got to Lincoln (one of Sam’s favorite spots!) Dave dropped onto one knee and asked Sam to marry him! She says they both may have blacked out in the moment, but it was absolutely perfect.

Now… before we get into the good stuff, I just have to give these two a little shoutout for being SO flexible and understanding in the crowds of tourists. I don’t typically photograph sessions at the blossoms on weekends because of the crowds, but because there was rain in the forecast on their original session date, we bumped to Saturday. It’s been a MINUTE since I’ve been down on the Tidal Basin during peak bloom on a weekend, and WOW I forgot just how crazy it could be! Partner that with the insane WIND that blew in mid-session, and we were in for a pretty wild time! We spent a decent bit of time dodging tourists and finding plenty of unique locations away from the crowds and sheltered from the winds, but WOW it was worth it. I can’t wait for you to catch a sneak peek of the MAGIC we made at DC’s blossoms!

These two are just the sweetest!

Classic DC views never get old!

When we were taking this set of images, someone walked by and squealed “OH MY GOD THIS IS SO CUTE” and I have to say, I fully agree!

The winds were so crazy when we were trying to take a photo of Sam’s ring! Dave was blocking with the wind while Sam played catcher underneath, just in case the wind knocked her ring off the branch. Have I ever mentioned how great these two are?!

Most of the pink magnolias froze this year, but a few made an appearance for Sam and Dave’s engagement session, and I’m obsessed! THAT PINK!
