Sahana and Wes | A Joyful Emerald Green and Gold Indian Wedding Celebration at Sequoia in Washington, DC

These two have been waiting for their party for YEARS, and oh my goodness, was it one for the BOOKS. Sahana and Wes were actually married last June in a ceremony with their immediate families as witnesses, and they’ve been waiting patiently for their big ceremony with their friends and family (and the dance party to follow) ever since. I don’t know if I’ve ever photographed a wedding that felt more relaxed and true to the couple that planned the weekend! I remember from our first conversations that Sahana and Wes were so excited to have the time and the space to celebrate with the people that matter most to them, and that’s exactly what played out this last weekend!

Sahana and Wes’s wedding weekend kicked off on Friday with their ceremony at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Temple with so many of their family and friends there to wish them well. It was so special to see just how loved they are by their people with so many of their family members playing part in their ceremony. After their ceremony, we celebrated with portraits and a quick bite to eat before heading off to get some rest for Saturday’s big party!

When I arrived on Saturday, I found Wes and Sahana practicing their first dance in their suite, prepped and ready to go in hair and makeup for the day. It couldn’t have been an easier morning! They slipped into their attire, we grabbed our gear, and headed on over to their venue (Sequoia DC!) on the Georgetown waterfront.

It was one of the first super warm days of DC’s spring, and if you’re familiar with DC, you know that this means that everyone wants to be outside. While this made things a little tricky for portraits (Because if you also know DC, you know that Georgetown on a Saturday afternoon gets pretty crazy!), these two were TROOPERS, walking through the streets of the city in 80-degree weather in one outfit that weighed at least 15 pounds and another that was made of velvet. (In short, these two are the BEST… just wait until you see their portraits!)

After portraits, it was time for the party, and this crew was READY! I’ve never seen a dancefloor as full and energetic as theirs! Their friends and family were pumped to celebrate these two and their marriage— I think the only time anyone stopped dancing was to grab a refill at the bar. It was so special to see these two experience the celebration they’ve been picturing for so long, and I truly can’t wait for you to see just how beautiful it was.

While this may just be one of the longest blog posts I’ve ever shared, with a day this gorgeous, can ya blame me?!

FRIDAY

After their session, we headed outside for some portraits, and WOW… it was a gorgeous evening!

SATURDAY

Saturday kicked off at the Omni Shoreham where Wes and Sahana were getting ready together! I love how relaxed and lowkey they kept things morning-of, and I’m also OBSESSED with their getting ready suite. Wait until you see the wallpaper!

Sarah, my second shooter, snapped this one just before we wrapped up with Sahana’s portraits! I am obsessed!

When we got to Georgetown, we headed out to take portraits right away. If you know Georgetown on a Saturday, you know it is typically PACKED. Today was no different, and while it took a little bit of a trek to find clear streets, it was well worth it!

Obsessed with these two!

Now back to their venue for the party!

We snuck off for sunset portraits just after toasts wrapped up… can we talk about those views of the Kennedy Center?!

Sahana and Wes had the BEST first dance… it was the perfect way to kick off an energetic evening of dancing and celebrations!

This crew wasted no time warming up the dance floor!

Thank you, Sahana and Wes, for having me along as part of your wedding weekend! It was such a joy to photograph you two and to meet your family and friends!

A special thank you to the vendor team that made Sahana and Wes’s weekend so special:
