Remember these pretty pink blooms? I thought it was about time they made an appearance on the blog! This was my first year offering DC Cherry Blossom minis, and they didn’t disappoint. I had the honor of working with four amazing groups and loved every second! The blossoms were in peak bloom and made for a stunning backdrop for these mini portrait sessions!
During the planning process, I had hoped that we would be able to utilize the spot you’ll see in these photos at the Tidal Basin, but being a popular press spot AND a popular photography location, I wasn’t sure if it would be possible! Somehow, the stars (and blossoms!) aligned and we were able to camp out at one of my favorite spots all morning long which made for THE most amazing photos!
I’ve wanted to offer mini sessions for years but haven’t been able to because of the risk that comes along with the unpredictability of the blooms and spring weather. This year, I decided to make it happen, and it was SO rewarding to get some more people in front of my camera in one blossom season than I have been able to in the past! While the jury is still deliberating on whether these will happen year after year, I am dying to share more from this year’s blossom mini sessions!
Let’s dive into the recap of these gorgeous mini sessions in Washington, DC!
The M. Family
The M family were the first to start my day, and I could not be more grateful for this sweet fam! They were up and at ‘em well before sunrise and were even EARLY to their session. It was the perfect way to kick off a marathon morning I was beyond impressed… and was even more impressed when I learned that the girls were headed right to school after their session! We enjoyed Tidal Basin views featuring the iconic Jefferson and the Washington Monuments, which were even more stunning with the fluffy pink blossoms. I had such a blast capturing this adorable fam!
Ale and Ryan
During one of my cherry blossom sessions last year, I heard something along the lines of: “excuse me— what’s your name? I like your vibe and want to follow you!”
Well… that was Ale, and fast forward about a year, an engagement session, an elopement, and a few exciting job changes, I got her and her HUSBAND in front of my camera at THE blossoms where we all first met!
I photographed Ale and Ryan’s engagement session, and I, unfortunately, had COVID for their elopement. They were more than gracious, and I will be forever grateful that one of my dear friends was able to take such amazing care of them and their families on their wedding day.
It was such a dream to capture this sweet couple yet again! These photos mean the world to me because, not only did we get to have a super cute full circle moment, but I also finally got to photograph Ale and Ryan as husband and wife. Seeing my couples after their wedding day is always a treat, but this one was extra special!
Haley and Patrick
I’m officially considering a career in standup comedy after landing all of my monumental dead President jokes with these two 💁🏼♀️ We laughed so much during Haley and Patrick’s session at such a classic DC location! Haley is one of my industry and real life friends, and it was such an honor to get her and her fiancé in front of my camera. They were so sweet to work with, and it was such a treat to see Haley in a capacity outside of wedding days, networking, and Instagram feeds!
There’s no bigger honor than photographing your friends, but it’s a little extra special when they are also photographers! Haley and Patrick laughed their way through their mini session and were a literal DREAM to have in front of my camera. You never would have guessed that this was their first official time being photographed as a couple— they are naturals!
Vivian and Baby R.
One last recap from blossom minis, and it’s a good one! Vivian and her sweet son flew in the day before their session, yes, you read that right, they flew in just to enjoy the blossoms (And some time with friends!). This is something they have done for a few years now, choosing to add some gorgeous portraiture to the mix this year!
Fast forward to their flight, and they were up against rain, strollers broken and car seats lost by airlines, delayed flights, and road closures. Vivian was really close to making the call to cancel their session, but they made it to the Tidal Basin against all odds, and WOW was it worth it… just wait until you see how sweet this Mommy and Me mini is!
We took a combination of sweet mama and son photos, some headshots for V and some individual milestone photos of Baby R. The fluffy pink blossoms at the Tidal Basin served as the perfect backdrop for this adorable duo. It was a joy to work with both of them!
