Reminding myself that slow and steady blog catch-up is so much better than none at all— especially when it means getting to revisit moments like this one with Abby and Nick! These two got engaged last June, and their proposal was such a joyful and personal reflection of their story.
I’ve known Abby and Nick for years now—they’re friends of my cousin Julie, and I had the absolute honor of photographing their maternity, newborn, and family photos as they welcomed their sweet baby girl, K!
So when Nick reached out about planning a surprise proposal in Fells Point, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Abby and Nick initially met through Hinge and had their very first date at Mr. Nice Guys Cocktails. Since so many big parts of their relationship started in Baltimore— matching, dating, and starting a family— Nick knew he wanted to pop the question somewhere that reflected that. Fells Point was the perfect choice: iconic waterfront views, a walkable harbor, and so reflective of their story as a couple.
The plan was set! Nick’s parents were visiting and planned to watch Baby K while Abby and Nick headed out for a “just parents” drink before the dinner they had planned as a family. Little did Abby know… the walk from their drinks to dinner as a crew was leading her straight into a whole new chapter!
After a stop at the Pendry for cocktails, Nick paused along the harbor and got down on one knee while I hid on a bench nearby, telephoto lens at the ready!
Her reaction was the sweetest, and getting to document those first few just-engaged moments was such a joy. Not long after, Nick’s parents brought their daughter over to meet us— cue even more happy hugs! (Also, Nick officially won my brand new award for most efficient post-proposal diaper change I’ve ever witnessed!)
From there, the surprises kept coming. Instead of heading to dinner, Nick had planned a celebration at one of their favorite Baltimore spots, Of Love and Regret, where so many of their favorite people were waiting to toast to their engagement!
It was celebratory, sentimental, chill, and just so them. Abby and Nick, thank you for trusting me with your Fells Point proposal. It has been such a joy to photograph so many meaningful moments in your story.
