I truly love every couple I get to photograph, but K and J will always hold a special little corner of my heart. Their Lifestyle Engagement Session in Annapolis MD felt especially meaningful because these two have become such dear friends. Last fall, we gathered at K’s parents’ beautiful home overlooking the water on a rainy, chilly day that somehow made everything feel even cozier.
K and J came prepared with the sweetest ideas. We started in the kitchen with a “kiss the cook” moment while they baked cookies together. J wore red lipstick and kept sneaking little kisses onto K’s cheeks, and honestly, I could’ve photographed that scene all afternoon. Then we headed across the street to the bay after they changed into simple white tees and jeans, snuggled up with their pup, and leaned into the breezy shoreline vibes.
Every moment felt relaxed, real, and completely true to who they are.
Their story began at Loyola University in the campus ministry office, where a very clever chaplain kept pairing them up long before they realized what everyone else already knew — they were meant to be more than friends. Since then, they’ve adopted a pup, bought a home, and last year, both proposed in the most thoughtful ways: K first during a date night in Fells Point, and J later just days before one of their medium-format film test session at the Inner Harbor.
Their lifestyle Annapolis engagement session gave us two totally different looks that still felt perfectly connected and so very THEM.
Inside, the warm, homey kitchen made their playful energy shine. Outside, the open water and cool fall air created soft, natural moments that highlighted their connection. Together, the settings told such a complete story — cozy, joyful, windy, snuggly, and full of personality.
There’s something so special about photographing couples in a space that matters to them. K’s parents’ home added layers of meaning you just can’t create in a public spot. At-home sessions help couples relax quickly, offer familiar and meaningful backdrops, and give you privacy to be fully yourselves. And when you mix an indoor space with nearby outdoor views — like the bay right across the street — you get a gallery with so much variety..
K and J’s engagement session set such a sweet tone for their Woodberry Kitchen wedding back in March— another day full of intention, love, and joyful moments.
