Looking for inspiration for your own engagement photos? K & J’s Baltimore Waterfront engagement session on medium format film was the perfect mix of sunset views, champagne toasts, and heartfelt laughter. Captured on a pier in Locust Point, this session not only marked the turning point in my film photography journey but also the beginning of a beautiful friendship with K&J!
Last summer was such a special turning point for me as a photographer—I had just purchased a new-to-me medium format film camera and couldn’t wait to test it out.
Film had always fascinated me, but this was the first time I was ready to dip my toes in and see how it could become part of my work. I knew I wanted a low-pressure, fun environment to practice in, so I put out a call for a couple to model in exchange for film scans and a little gallery.
Enter K & J! While I had these two on the books for their engagement session and wedding day, they messaged me almost immediately, excited to help me try something new. Little did I know at the time that saying “yes” to this session would not only help me to continue to fall in love with film, but also bring two of the kindest, most supportive people into my life. K & J have since become dear friends, and earlier this year, I had the honor of photographing their wedding day. (PS you can see that beautiful day here!) Truly, my life is brighter with them in it.
For their Baltimore waterfront engagement session, we met up in Locust Point at sunset, with the city skyline glowing across the harbor.
They brought along a bottle of champagne (such a fun idea!) so we could test the camera’s ability to capture action— and of course, toast to their love. Between laughter, champagne sprays, and strolls along the pier, I burned my way through a few rolls of film.
Waiting for film scans always feels a little like waiting for Christmas morning, and when I finally received them, I was over the moon. Seeing K & J’s joy, love, and energy captured on medium format film made me so excited to continue growing in this craft. While my film work has evolved a lot since that evening, this session will forever hold a special place in my heart— it was the beginning of a new chapter for me, and the start of a friendship I’ll treasure for years to come!
K & J, thank you for trusting me, cheering me on, and supporting my film journey from the very start.
I’ll forever be grateful for this night on the water with you two. It is such a joy to celebrate y’all! And yes, for those who are curious, every single image below is film! This medium will never, ever get old. 💕
