Kelly and Michelle | A Proposal in Lady Bird Johnson Park in Washington, DC

Kelly and Michelle are ENGAGED!!!! I think the only proposal I’ve ever been more anxiously excited for might just be my very own sister’s!

I’ve known Michelle and Kelly for a while now, meeting these friends of mine when we all worked together at Equinox’s Anthem Row. They say that w0rking for your friends should be easier than working for strangers, but honestly, I think I often get more nervous photographing people I know than total strangers!

Kelly and I taught classes around the same time a few days each week, and I would often interrogate them on private health insurance pre-class because they knew how everything worked! (I’m still so grateful they took the time to chat through everything with me because, without them, I wouldn’t have had any idea where to even begin to look for health insurance when I aged off my family’s plan.) ANYWAYS, one day, we were sitting there chatting about deductibles + premiums when they looked around to make sure no one would be coming in anytime soon and then quickly said: IwanttoproposetoMichellesoonandIwantyoutheretophotographit. It took me a second to digest what they said before I started squealing for these two and vowed myself to keep the surprise!

Kelly went on to explain that they were still waiting for the perfect time but that when they were both ready, I would be getting a call so we could start planning the logistics of the surprise! Fast forward to March of 2021, and I got an email that the ring was on its way. We started planning the big moment! Michelle and Kelly run together often, and Kelly let me know that they would be completing their first half marathon together soon. Kelly was hoping they could ask the question on a recovery run after their race, on a trail where they often run, with their pup accompanying them.

After a few secret recon running missions (with Michelle in tow who still had no idea!), Kelly found the perfect spot, organized the logistics with me, and had everything ready to go! (Permit, picnic, and the ring… check, check, and check!) Kelly asked Michelle to marry them the day after they completed their first half marathon together, getting down on one knee in a place where they had taken many runs together before! I was not-so-secretly hiding behind the trunk of a willow tree, hoping that Michelle wouldn’t spot me and my camera when I stepped out from behind the tree during the big moment! Thankfully, everything went off without a hitch, and these two are over the MOON to officially be engaged!

Keep on scrolling for a recap of our evening together!

So many feels! I’m so happy for these two! ENGAGED!  It always cracks me up when I’m spotted! That RING though!

Now for some celebratory portraits!

I still can’t stop laughing at their sweet pup, Indy’s, face. He did SO good with everything and was so happy for his parents! (and for the goose poop he got to eat to celebrate)

We were then off to Gravelly Point where a few of Kelly and Michelle’s friends had set up a celebratory picnic for them!

Beer, planes +  a gorgeous spring golden hour! Is there anything better?!
