Three Things To Do Just Before Your Engagement Session | Wedding Planning

Y’all… I can’t even tell you how excited I am for today’s post! I’ve written before about what to do the morning of your wedding day (click here!) but never have I posted about what to do the morning of your engagement session!

There are actually a few super specific things you should prep and keep in mind just before your engagement session! For this post, keep in mind, I recommend getting these things done at least 12 hours before your session. So… for sunrise sessions, you’ll want to do these the night or evening before, and for evening sessions, you’ll want to take care of these things the evening before or the morning of your session.

The most important takeaway? Definitely get these things done and get them done early! Now… what should you keep in mind? Let’s chat!

Hang your outfits on hangers + confirm everything is wrinkle-free

Before your session, you’ll want to make sure that your attire is laid out, wrinkle-free, and ready to travel (if you’ll be changing!)! If you are wearing one outfit, make sure it is steamed and ready to go for stress-free session prep. If you’ll be changing outfits at your session, I recommend laying out your second outfits in advance, steam them, and make sure each piece is prepped and ready to go. From there, place your second outfits on a hanger and put them near the door you’ll be leaving out of for your session. I recommend keeping everything on hangers to help keep your attire looking its best.

Pack accessories, shoes, and any other must-haves for your session

If you are wearing one outfit for your session, make sure your accessories and shoes are laid out in advance. The last thing you’ll want to be doing is searching high and low for a specific pair of shoes as you run out the door! Lay things out early to help limit some of that last-minute stress that comes along with misplaced items. If you are wearing two outfits, be sure to locate your accessories for this outfit, including (but not limiting) jewelry, ties, shoes, socks, etc. Lay these items out and then put them in a large tote bag or something similar to be transported. Make sure you put the bag near your prepped and ready outfits to ensure you’ll remember all your accessories!

I also recommend bringing along a number of helpful things to your engagement session (Think: makeup touchups, hairbrushes, change of shoes, etc.). Click here for my emergency kit packing list! Take some time before your engagement session to locate all the items, to pack them away, and to ensure you’ll have everything you need to keep you looking and feeling your best during your session.

Double-check your meeting time + confirm travel time via maps to set your departure time

This may be the most important point of all! Double-check your meeting time, place addresses in Google Maps or a similar platform, and set your departure time. From there, schedule your getting ready time! If you’re having a morning session, how early will you need to wake up to get ready? If you have an evening session, how much time will you need to prep? In addition, how long will your partner need to prep? Be sure to kindly check in on one another to avoid tension or stress pre-session.

Bonus: Shine up your ring

This one goes without saying, but make sure you take an extra beat to get your ring cleaned and shined up! I include this point in nearly all of my engagement session and prep guides! We want that ring looking its boldest and brightest! I usually recommend getting your ring professionally cleaned, but if that is not an option, there are other great at-home options too! I love the Mrs. Box Gem Pen for giving your ring a little extra polish and shine!
