Blagden Alley: A Photography Walk for Creatives in Washington, DC | Wandering the District

My heart is filled with SO much gratitude today!!! Welcome to the recap of the very FIRST official Wandering the District meetup!

At the beginning of the year, I posted a random blurb on Instagram about how I wanted to explore the city more. I’ve found that, living in DC, a lot of your time can be spent dreaming about exploring, but actually getting motivated to GO explore can be difficult. I wanted to have a little more motivation to see the places I want to see, so I asked if anyone would be interested in seeing the adventures documented on the blog! Well… I was BLOWN away!

In addition to wanting to see the adventures on the blog, people ALSO wanted to come along on the adventures themselves. I was so excited (talk about some really good motivation to get up and out into the community!) and soon after, Wandering the District was born. Wandering the District is a community for DC creatives and adventurers! We meet up once a month to explore a spot in DC. You are welcome to bring your fancy camera, your video camera, your iPhone camera, your mind’s eye… anyone is welcome! Our group is slowly building, and it is making my heart so happy! My hope is that this group helps to foster a fun, dynamic and creative community right here in the District.

We would love for you to be part of the community too. You can join us by clicking here!

Now… on to the official recap from our time together! This weekend, we had our very first official meetup at Blagden Alley in Shaw. I’ve walked by this alley almost every single week since I’ve moved to DC but never actually took the time to explore. I know how silly that sounds!! Because of that (and because I’ve heard some amazing things about Blagden Alley!), I knew this should be one of the first locations on Wandering the District’s must-visit list!

Saturday brought us an amazing 75-degree day and SUNSHINE! Y’all… I don’t think we could have ordered a more beautiful day if we tried! I quickly learned that I need to come back to Blagden Alley with an empty belly and a full afternoon to dive into all of the restaurants. In addition to some really amazing murals, there are also quite a few cute restaurants and bars tucked into the alley. It was such an honor to have two sweet Wanderers along to explore! It was great to see one of my dear friends from my old job and to meet a brand new friend too!

We started out at Buttercream for some dessert and to get to know each other… I got something called a Fluff Bomb, and it was basically a marshmallow fluff filled meringue, covered in dark chocolate and sea salt. Did I mention it was also gluten free?! I was in heaven. Allie got a dessert called a unicorn brownie! It was rainbow and sparkly and looked SO delicious!

If you’ve never been, Buttercream is a super cute bakery in Shaw. It’s also just down the street from Blagden Alley, which made for a very convenient meeting spot! They have amazing baked goods and coffee (and the cutest shop too)! They also craft the most beautiful desserts for weddings and events. If you are local to DC and are looking for an amazing wedding dessert vendor, I highly recommend getting in touch with themButtercream Bake Shop Fluff Bomb and Storefront Buttercream Bake Shop Buttercream Bake Shop Unicorn BrownieOn to Blagden Alley! DC Alley Museum | Blagden Alley Whenever I think of Blagden Alley, I think of this mural! It was so fun to see it in person, after seeing it on Instagram! Allie had to head home before we got to headshots! Cassidy and I had a mini swap in front of the gorgeous rainbow colors!
