Patterson Park and Fells Point Engagement Session | Melissa and Tyler

I love an engagement session that, not only is beautiful, but that also ties into a couple’s story. Melissa and Tyler’s Patterson Park and Fells Point engagement session was equal parts early spring afternoon and full-circle moment (In more ways than one!), and I was so here for every second of it.

These two were my very first engagement session last spring, and then my very last wedding of the year. I love that I got to start AND end my year with such amazing people!

From the very beginning, Melissa and Tyler just felt easy. Warm, grounded, completely themselves. They are the kind of couple that makes you forget you’re even working because you’re just genuinely enjoying their company. And their pup, Maya, may have stolen the entire first half of the session (And a few minutes during their wedding), I’m not even a little bit sorry to admit it because I know these two would also say the same!

We started at Patterson Park, and Maya was an absolute angel.

Living just around the corner, these three often walk through Patterson Park as a crew. When you’re in an environment that dogs know well, a session can go one of two ways. Being the perfect angel she is, Maya chose chaos for none of it. She was perfect pup— present, photogenic, and completely in her element with her people. Patterson Park in early spring has this soft, unhurried quality to it, and with Maya trotting along beside them and the two of them just being themselves, I love that these photos tie into the story of their day to day and life with Maya.

As the sun started to drop a little lower over the city, we made our way over to the piers in Fells.

That late winter meets early spring Fells Point light? It delivered. There is something so quintessentially Baltimore about those views — the water, the skyline, the piers, the particular way the late afternoon sun hits all of it. It felt like the city was in on celebrating these two and the love they share. We wandered, we frolicked, and I got some of my favorite frames of these two right there against that waterfront backdrop.

And then we wrapped things up just around the corner at Max’s Taphouse.

Here’s the thing. Max’s Taphouse is not just a bar we popped into because it was nearby. Max’s Taphouse is where Melissa and Tyler had their very first date. Ending their Patterson Park and Fells Point engagement session session with a beer at the place where it all began? That’s not just a cute detail — that’s the whole story in one frame. I love when a session has a moment like that, something so specifically theirs that no one else could recreate it… and these two managed to tie not one but TWO incredibly meaningful spots into their session.

These two love Baltimore almost as much as they love each other, and it shows.

Getting to kick off their wedding experience with their engagement photos was the perfect way to start my season. And getting to close it out at their wedding? Even better.
