Going into this day, I knew I was in for something special. While Brittany and Grayson now call Dallas home, Brittany grew up in Maryland— and what you get from that combination is exactly as good as it sounds. Southern hospitality and charm, grounded in that down-to-earth feeling that’s just so specifically Maryland.
Going to get cheesy here for one second and one second only. You know that Andy Bernard quote from The Office?
“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” These two knew. You could feel it in every single moment, and everyone in that room felt it too.
From the moment I arrived at Lakewood Country Club, I knew that I was in for a treat of a day!
We had THE most beautiful weather (Ok maybe it was a liiiiittle hot), stunning views, and amazing vibes in the hair and makeup room. Grayson’s aunt happens to be an incredibly talented print designer who created a perfect blue hydrangea pattern for the bridesmaids’ robes and the reception linens. I snuck one of the robes away for the detail flat lay, and it was absolutely perfect. That kind of intentionality before the champagne is even poured says everything about these two: they are thoughtful with amazing taste and are also a heck of a lot of fun!
After Brittany’s people helped her into her bridal attire, we knocked out a first look with Brittany and her dad, bridesmaids portraits, and then the guys. You would think a wedding party of 22 including the couple would bring chaos, but it really was nothing but the best vibes. These two are such genuinely kind people and surround themselves with the same. Soon, it was time to get these cuties hitched!
Brittany’s grandfather officiated the ceremony overlooking the golf course at Lakewood Country Club.
They kissed, smiled their biggest smiles, and recessed as husband and wife. Then we headed to the green for portraits with their custom flag — and that’s when my second shooter, Sam, started whispering radar updates in my ear. The sky had her own plans and my adrenaline kicked into high gear.
We moved fast, leaned into how genuinely natural these two are together, and made it inside just before one of our first big thunderstorms of the summer.
Somehow?! We did it! Couple’s portraits, all 20 wedding party members, combined family photos, and their cute custom golf flag portraits that we had all been dreaming about for months now!
Fortunately, the dance floor kept everyone plenty busy while the weather sorted herself out. I loved the way these two designed their party. They opted for open seating, food stations, a joyful first dance, and an electric dance set from their band to kick off the night with a bang.
We also got to enjoy a few dances between Brittany, Grayson, and some of their closest people. Parent dances always get me a little misty, but Brittany’s dance with her three grandfathers? That one really got me. The way these two honored the people who shaped their story was so quietly admirable and so, so sweet.
As the evening drew on, I glanced outside and saw THE most spectacular golden hour peeping through the clouds.
Queue one happy couple and two very happy photographers racing each other on golf carts to the top of the hill for the best view of the course and the sky. We frolicked (There’s truly no other word for it), Brittany and Grayson were adorable, the light was divine, I was in photographer heaven. And then because the party was poppin off, we were full speed back to a dance floor that was packed, silly, and absolutely nonstop until the very end.
Brittany and Grayson are currently somewhere in Europe living their best lives, and while I really tried to sneak into their suitcase at the end of the night, me and my giant camera bag both didn’t fit. Fortunately, I’ve had the joy of re-living their Lakewood Country Club wedding on my screen all week, and I cannot wait for you to scroll through it.
