Portraits, A Teddy Bear Picnic and How I’m Working on One of My Biggest Faults | Friday Chatter

HAPPY FRIDAY, FRIENDS! Phew, this week was a crazy one! I’m coming off of a week of catchup and editing after a week spent with my family! I’m heading down to Charlottesville tonight for an engagement session, and tomorrow, I’m off to PA for a wedding! It felt SO good to be back in the swing of things, even if I did spend a lot of my week wishing I was still sitting on the beach with the fam. Today’s post is going to be a random hodgepodge of sorts, so let’s do it!

I’ll be the first to admit that I am the absolute worst about taking personal photos–phone, big camera, all of them– I always seem to forget to take personal photos! I never want to say that being behind my camera feels like work because it is an absolute dream, but sometimes I have a really hard time just being in the moment if I am worrying about capturing moments. It may be the perfectionist in me, or maybe my eyes sometimes want a break from looking down a lens, or maybe I’ve just never made personal photos a habit (and should!!). But, forgetting or not taking personal photos has become one of my biggest faults as a photographer! It is something that I am really trying to work on by forcing myself to take out my phone or camera from time to time. I find so much joy in capturing memories for others, and I should be doing the same for me and my family! So…. long story short, I’m working on it!!

This past week, I was lucky enough to spend two days at my grandparent’s! They live in Stone Harbor, NJ and I have been visiting this house since BEFORE I was even born. The time I get to spend in Stone Harbor is pretty much always the highlight of my summer–I could go on and on about this place, but that would LITERALLY be an entire blog post of its own! We had one really special night, where we spent some time celebrating my Grammy’s birthday. I DID manage to get my camera out, even if it was just for a little bit, and snapped a few photos!

I’m so thankful that my Grammy and Poppop humored me and allowed me to get them in front of my camera again this year! These photos will always make me smile… 60+ years of marriage and still looking at each other with hearts in their eyes!

Ok… now you are either about to think my family and I are absolutely CRAZY or are going to have a total flashback to your childhood! Have you ever been to a teddy bear picnic? There is a cute little storybook (and a song) that goes along with the theme! You grab your favorite teddy bear and bring them along to a picnic tea party! We had SO much fun with these when we were little.

When we were all younger, my grandma used to host the best teddy bear picnics. We would gather our favorite bears, cutest stuffed animals and would sip warm tea carefully out of a beautiful tea set. Deciding which stuffed animal could come to the picnic was always THE hardest decision. In celebration of my Grammy’s birthday, we decided to host HER her very own teddy bear picnic! We had her favorite petit fours, blueberries for the gluten free people and wine instead of tea. We wore hats and laughed around the picnic table in the backyard… Thanks to my mom’s reminder, I did actually get out my camera and snapped a few photos! I’m so happy that I did!

I’m going to try my hardest to become better about getting my camera out during the sweet, everyday moments (and during the fun celebrations!!). This past week was such a great reminder that I really do love taking photos, just for fun!!
