Hi friends! Phew… does anyone else feel like this past week actually flew by?! I woke up on Monday morning, and then… all of a sudden, it was Friday! I am so excited for this weekend. It marks my first wedding of the season, and it is going to be absolutely beautiful! Busy season is officially in full swing, and it feels so good!

Now, today’s post is just for fun! It isn’t really a question that I get, but it may cross some people’s mind every now and then:

If your name is Caity Kramer, why is your business named Cait Kramer Photography?

Once upon a time, my business was known as Captured by Caity Photography. I loved the little brand that I built under that name, but I soon became restless with the name and wanted something that was a little more unique to me…. something that was a bit more timeless. It was also so important to me that people were able to feel a personal connection to my brand and that this brand linked them back to me, and I felt that the best way to do this was by using my name in my branding.

I started looking into the rebranding process the summer between my junior and senior year of college. I began playing around potential combinations of my name… Caity Kramer Photography, Caitlin Kramer Photography, Cait Kramer Photography, Caity Elizabeth Photography… there were so many options but none of them really felt right. I gravitated most towards Caity Kramer Photography and started working on getting some designs together for a logo.

As I was dreaming about designs and where I hoped to take my business in the future, the name just didn’t really sit right with me. I felt that there were too many syllables and that it got caught on my tongue. Now… this is where I am actually going to sound like a crazy lady. In typography, there are things called descenders, which basically means that a letter or character has a tail that extends below the main line of text. (Think the letters: g, j, p, q, y.) I also soon realized that designing with the letter Y in my name made things SO much harder than they needed to be. I wasn’t in love the flow of my potential business name, and I realized that I really liked how Cait Kramer Photography sounded a lot better! There was one fewer syllable, and there was one less descender to worry about!

My family calls me Cait from time to time and so do some of my closest friends. I love how incorporating this nickname that the people that are closest to me use into my business made me feel like I so much closer to my audience… like I was sharing things with the people that I hold closest to my heart. It sounds silly and cheesy and somewhat crazy, but it’s true! Cait Kramer Photography just felt right, so I ran with it (and I am so glad that I did!). I also tried designing a logo without the Y and realized that it was SO much easier to design without the descender!

What to call me? Caity, Cait… I’ll answer to either!

So there you have it… it is a little bit of a silly story, but I thought that it would be fun to share! I think Cait Kramer Photography will be here to stay for a while.
